Fluoride
People don’t want fluorine in their drinking water for one basic reason. This reason is fluorine has to be made in an exact amount or ratio. If there is just a little bit too much fluorine, it can cause brown spots that stain your teeth.
I agree with adding fluorine to the drinking water. From my own personal experience, the amount of cavities has decreased significantly. Now scientists can focus on fixing people’s teeth, having longer lasting, healthy teeth, instead of worrying about people getting cavities.
Still before fluorine could be used, an advance in technology was needed. Scientists needed to know what elements to combine with fluorine in order to make it safe for use. For example, when fluorine is added to water, it could make a poison. Therefore, fluorine has to be in another compound that then combines with water forming a safe substance.
There are many side effects of using fluorine in drinking water. As mentioned before, fluorine is a poison, and the slightest bit can kill someone. In order for fluorine to be used in drinking water, it has to be combined with certain elements that will help make fluorine not as poisonous. Next, if the toothpaste companies make a tiny mistake in making the toothpaste formula, someone could die. Finally, when fluorine is added to our water supply, the dose is impossible to control making the risk of death even higher.
